Barlight

One drunk night I played in some run down bar

Just me and my guitar,

Played Johnny Cash and Hank,

I just played and sang and drank.

Then some guy yells "Can my girl get up and sing?"

So up comes this timid thing

She joins in as I start playin'

"In the early morning rain."

CHORUS:

How I loved you in the barlight

And the way you sang with me that night

It was just a simple harmony

Oh, but it was sweet as it could be.

Just one song but it felt so right

Then you ran off the stage without a bow

And though doesn’t even matter now

How I loved you in the barlight.

She was young and so tiny in that place,

Her long hair hid her face,

A slowly swaying skirt

And a sweet voice full of hurt.

CHORUS:

How I loved you in the barlight

And the way you sang with me that night

It was just a simple harmony

Oh, but it was sweet as it could be.

Just one song but it felt so right

Then you ran off the stage without a bow

And though doesn’t even matter now

How I loved you in the barlight.

Now and then I hear that song somewhere

And it takes me right back there,

There are women I've loved more,

But there are few I still long for.

CHORUS:

How I loved you in the barlight

And the way you sang with me that night

It was just a simple harmony

Oh, but it was sweet as it could be.

Just one song but it felt so right

Then you ran off the stage without a bow

And though I’ve barely though of you till now

How I loved you in the barlight
